Discover ways to create space for contemplation in your life.
Spirtual Direction
Creating space for contemplation means having the ability to change the focus of your thoughts from your concerns and desires to your experiences of God. We find God in nature, bible stories, art, and the everyday experiences of our lives.
To create this contemplative space, I use an approach to spiritual direction where the focus is on you. We practice deep listening and the asking of meaningful questions to help you find your own experience of God in the stories of your life. The idea is that you and God are already in communication, and the purpose of spiritual direction is for you to discover how God is moving in your life.

Pilgrimage: Walking the Camino de Santiago
Experience the Camino de Santiago. This is my blog about my experience walking the Camino in pilgrimage. I reflect on how I how I encountered God and explored my faith as I walked. The description of each day’s walk fills you with the beauty of the Camino Frances.

Meditations for turning ordinary experiences into encounters with God
Experiencing the presence of God is easier than you may think. We use our thoughts to feel the beauty of nature, the meaning in art, the experience of each bible story, and the quiet workings of God throughout our day. By focusing on those thoughts, we encounter the presence of God. We experience God’s love for us and learn to reflect that love out into the world.

Walking in Nature
There is something about walking that allows God to slowly seep into our souls. There are so many things to focus on – the ground supporting our feet, the movement of air, the strength of the trees, the nourishment of rain – we naturally turn our attention away from ourselves. This section contains meditations to use as you walk, allowing you to experience the divine in God’s creation.

Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina is a prayerful way to read scripture. The traditional way is to read a short scripture passage slowly, find a word/phrase that speaks to you, meditate on that word/phrase and let it touch your heart. The goal is to rest in silence so that God can take us beyond ourselves.
Lectio is a gentle process. You are not trying to find the truth of the scripture. Instead, you are using scripture to focus your thoughts and your emotions to create space so that God can find you. The goal is to merely stand in the presence of God and let God do the rest.

Visio Divina
Reading scripture as contemplation allows us to imagine ourselves in the bible story. In Visio Divina, we combine this spiritual reading with art. As we read the scripture passage, we focus on the work of art. We place ourselves in the picture. What image do we identify with? What do we notice surrounding that image? How does it relate to the scripture? How does it speak to our relationship with God?

Experiencing God’s Presence in Nature
Come with me as I reflect on walking contemplatively in nature. My reflections use scripture and nature to create space for God to be gently present in my heart. I have found that walking in nature lets me experience scripture in a way that feels real.
